Cervantes is a national top-60 recruit and the 2021 Arizona Division I state medalist
MILWAUKEE – Highly decorated prep golfer Vincent Cervantes has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men's golf team, head coach Steve Bailey announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Cervantes will arrive on campus in the fall of 2024 and have four years of NCAA eligibility remaining with the Golden Eagles.
"We are beyond excited to officially welcome Vinny to the Marquette family," Bailey said. "Vinny has built a resume that ranks him as one of the top juniors in the world, and he will immediately elevate our program."
The native of Chandler, Arizona is a three-time team state champion as a member of the Hamilton High School boys golf team and the 2021 Arizona Division I boys' state medalist. He finished as state runner-up in 2023 and ranks as a top-60 player in the high school class of 2024.
"It's tough to win in golf and Vinny has done it at a high rate," Bailey said. "Those experiences will be invaluable as he transitions to the collegiate level."
In addition to his state tournament and high school golf success, Cervantes owns numerous victories and top-10 finishes at the junior amateur level.
"His golf highlights speak for themselves, but equally as valuable are his strong character and family values," said Bailey.
Cervantes was a teammate of current Marquette freshman Wyatt Chapman at Hamilton and joins a growing Arizona contingent inside the MU golf program. Max Lyons, a two-time All-BIG EAST selection and the league's freshman of the year in 2021-22, was one of the nation's top recruits out of Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Phoenix in 2021. MU senior Scott Schlader was also the AIA Division I state runner-up as a high school senior at Desert Vista H.S. in 2019.
