AVCA Release
LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Marquette University outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton was named to the AVCA All-East Region Team, while middle blocker Hattie Bray earned honorable mention, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday morning.Â
The pair helped the Golden Eagles claim a third-consecutive BIG EAST regular season title this fall and advance to their 12th NCAA tournament. MU swept Eastern Illinois in the NCAA First Round last week and fell at No. 13 Purdue in the second round.Â
Hamilton, who also earned all-region honors last season, led the Golden Eagles this season with 434 kills for an average of 3.77 per frame while hitting .274 (434-123-1,136). The unanimous All-BIG EAST Team selection hit .312 in league play and her 3.82 kills and 4.43 points per set average each ranked second in the conference.
The native of Hartland, Wisconsin earned six BIG EAST weekly honors this season and landed her 1,000th career on Sept. 13 against then-No. 1 Wisconsin at Fiserv Forum. Hamilton hit .346 in the first round against EIU and posted a team-best 22 kills with a pair of blocks and eight digs against Purdue.
Bray hit .272 as a redshirt sophomore this season with 250 kills (2.19 per set) and 98 blocks (0.83 per set). She hit .417 (7-2-12) in the NCAA First Round against Eastern Illinois and posted a monster hitting mark of .615 in the second round against Purdue with 16 kills on 26 errorless swings.
The native of Hancock, Wisconsin ranked sixth in BIG EAST play in blocks per set (0.98) and was 16th in hitting percentage. Last year, she was the lone MU player named to the NCAA Austin Region Team in the 2022 NCAA tournament for her play against eventual NCAA Champion Texas in the regional semifinals.
MU has had at least two players named all-region since the 2016 campaign and all but one season (2015) dating back to 2010. Each region has a 14-member team in addition to a group of players with honorable mention.
