Tyler Kolek Named BIG EAST Player Of Week

Player of Year candidate earns weekly award for second time
Marquette guard Tyler Kolek, a candiate for the league's player of the year award, has been chosen BIG EAST Player of the Week and Villanova forward Cam Whitmore has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players helped their teams to 2-0 weeks.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Jr. – Kolek was the force behind a 73-71 victory at Creighton and a 90-84 win over DePaul, which clinched at least a tie for the regular-season title for the Golden Eagles. Kolek scored the final two baskets of the game at Creighton and registered 22 points and 14 assists against DePaul. He scored 15 of Marquette's final 16 points against the Blue Demons. Kolek is averaging 12.3 points and owns a league-leading 7.8 assists average.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Cam Whitmore, Villanova, F, Fr. – Whitmore takes Freshman honors for the fourth time this season after averaging 14.0 points in a pair of wins against ranked opponents. He helped the Wildcats to a 79-67 win over No. 19 Creighton with 17 points and five rebounds. Whitmore is the top freshman scorer in the league with a 12.3 mark.
