Woodward is just the third Golden Eagle to be listed
Woodward, a two-time USILA All-American and three-time team captain, is just the third MU player to be recognized, following Conor Gately (2015-16) and the program's all-time leading scorer Ryan McNamara (2017).
The native of Towson, Maryland was a unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection on close defense and led the Golden Eagles in caused turnovers in each of his first three seasons in Milwaukee. He is the program's all-time leader in ground balls per game (4.59 per contest entering 2023) and has been the league's leader in ground balls among non-faceoff specialists each of the last two years.
Woodward and former USILA All-Americans Liam Byrnes and B.J. Grill, are only three players in MU history with over 100 career ground balls and 50 caused turnovers.

The Tewaaraton Award was established in 2000 by the University Club of Washington, D.C., to both honor the most outstanding male and female collegiate players, and to recognize the Native American heritage of the sport of lacrosse. As the Tewaaraton Foundation continues this annual tradition, it is clear that the connection between our current lacrosse heroes and the original warriors is one that distinguishes this Award from any other in sports.
The University Club, steeped in its own history, made careful acknowledgment of the games beginnings, most notable through its name, "Tewaaraton," the word given by the Mohawk Nation of the Iroquois Confederacy to the sport we now call lacrosse. Since its founding, the Award has been endorsed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Elders and US Lacrosse, meaningful validation from the authorities of both the native era and modern era.
Each year the event takes place at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, an ideal place to celebrate the game and its roots.
