Garcia, Nixon Earn Player of the Week Honors

Duo helped Marquette to 12-9 win over No. 24 UConn last week
NEW YORK — After strong individual performances in Marquette's 12-9 win over No. 24 Georgetown last week, senior attacker Shea Garcia and sophomore goalie Brynna Nixon were honored by the BIG EAST, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Garcia was named the conference Attacker of the Week after going for a game-high five points on four goals and an assist in the team's second-ever win against a top-25 opponent. Nixon anchored the defense to earn BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. honors, recording a career-high 14 saves in the contest. She had a .609 save percentage on 36 shots faced, while also adding on four ground balls.Â
This was the fourth Attacker of the Week honor of Garcia's career, and her third of the season. She also earned the honor last week. For Nixon, this is the first Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career.Â
BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Shea Garcia, Marquette, Sr., A
In a 1-0 week for Marquette, Garcia totaled five points off four goals and one assist in a 12-9 win against then-No. 24 Connecticut. The Golden Eagles' win over the Huskies is their first top-25 victory in program history. The senior attacker currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in goals per game (3.08) and third in total goals (40).Â

BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Ellie Curry, Denver, Sr., M
The senior midfielder had a strong week as the No. 3 Pioneers went 2-0. Curry tallied four points off three goals and one assist in the two victories. Her three goals came in a 15-8 win against Stanford and her assist came in a 23-6 victory at Xavier.Â

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Bryanna Nixon, Marquette, So., GK
Nixon had a career-high 14 saves in the Golden Eagles win over UConn. The sophomore goalkeeper had a .609 save percentage on 36 shots faced and only allowed nine goals. She also added four ground balls in the win. After last week's game, Nixon has surpassed the 100-save mark for the season with 112.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ryan Dineen, Denver, Fr., A
Dineen recorded 10 points off six goals and four assists in Denver's two wins last week. She scored 2 goals in the win over the Cardinal and then put a career-high four goals in the back of the net against the Musketeers. She also added four assists against Xavier to tie her career-high of eight points in a game. Dineen has scored a goal in six-straight games for the Pioneers.Â

Sloane Kipp, Denver, Jr., A – totaled 10 points off six goals and four assists in Denver's two wins last week; Kipp had a career-high six points against Stanford and has scored a hat trick in each of the past four games
Sam Thacker, Denver, Sr., D – had five ground balls, five draw controls, four ground balls and one assist for the Pioneers last week; Thacker recorded a season-high five caused turnovers and recorded her first career point with her assist against the Cardinal
Sydney Pappas, Villanova, So., A – scored four goals and had a .714 shot on goal percentage as Villanova topped Georgetown, 13-12
