Three Golden Eagles Earn WLAX Weekly Honors

Foust, Henry and Schumar helped lead MU to a 2-0 week on the road
NEW YORK — After helping lead Marquette to a 2-0 showing on the road with wins over Butler and Villanova last week, the trio of Lydia Foust, Ellie Henry and Mary Schumar were honored by the BIG EAST, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Foust was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week after a pair of outstanding performances in which she totaled 12 points on 10 goals and a pair of assists. She went off for seven goals with an assist at Butler to earn her fourth Midfielder of the Week honor this season. Ellie Henry helped anchor the Marquette defense and draw team in the wins to earn her second-career BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honor. At Butler, she went for 15 draw controls, second-most in program history. Earning a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll was Mary Schumar, who totaled 17 points on three goals and 14 assists last week including a BIG EAST record nine assists at Butler.Â
BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Kate Shaffer, Connecticut, Sr., A
Shaffer had 16 points off 12 goals and four assists last week as then-No. 25 Connecticut went 2-0. The senior attacker had six goals in a 13-9 home win over Georgetown and then added six goals and four assists in a 22-13 victory at Butler. Shaffer also added one caused turnover last week. She currently ranks 19th in the nation for total points (68). After their two wins last week, the Huskies have moved up to No. 23 in the latest IWLCA Division I Poll.Â

BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Lydia Foust, Marquette, Sr., M
The senior midfielder scored 10 goals and added two assists for 12 points last week as Marquette went 2-0. Foust scored seven goals and had one assist in a 22-16 win at Butler along with three goals and one assist in 12-8 win on the road against Villanova. She ranks 11th in the nation in total goals (54) and 16th in goals per game (3.38). Marquette is now ranked No. 24 in the newest IWLCA Division I Poll, which is the first time the Golden Eagles have been ranked in program history.Â

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Ellie Henry, Marquette, Sr., D
Henry had 19 draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover in the Golden Eagles two wins last week. The senior defender's 15 draw controls at Butler were the second-most in a game in program history. Henry proceeded to add four more draw controls along with three ground balls and one caused turnover in the victory at Villanova. She ranks 23rd in the nation in draw controls per game (6.12).

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Luci Selander, Butler, Fr., A
The freshman attacker totaled 12 points off eight goals and four assists for Butler last week. Selander had a career-high six goals along with a career-high eight points against Marquette. She also added two goals and two assists against the Huskies.Â
