Three WLAX Player Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Henry, Foust and Bireley helped MU to 14-12 road win over Georgetown in BIG EAST opener
NEW YORK — Following Marquette's 14-12 road win over Georgetown in its BIG EAST opener on Saturday afternoon, the Golden Eagle trio of Lydia Foust, Ellie Henry and Meg Bireley each earned weekly recognition from the league. Foust was named the conference Midfielder of the Week after combining for five points on four goals and an assist. She also recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover while taking four shots in the game. Henry anchored Marquette's defense and draw in the win to earn Defensive Player of the Week accolades, totaling four ground balls, two caused turnovers, a game-high eight draw controls and a goal. Bireley was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after leading MU's scoring efforts with a career-high six goals and sparking its comeback in the victory.Â
This is the fifth career Midfielder of the Week honor for Foust. It is the first Defensive Player of the Week recognition for Henry, and the first Weekly Honor Roll appearance for Bireley.Â
BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Julia Gilbert, Denver, Sr., A
The then-No. 4 Pioneers opened BIG EAST play with a 17-4 win over Villanova to go 1-0 on the week. Gilbert totaled a season-high seven points off four goals and three assists. The senior attacker's three assists are a season-high and ties a career-high. The last time Gilbert had three assists in a game was in the 2022 BIG EAST title game against Georgetown.Â

BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Lydia Foust, Marquette, Sr., M
The senior midfielder earned five points off four goals and one assist in a 1-0 week for the Golden Eagles. Marquette defeated Georgetown 14-12 to open conference play. Foust's four goals came off eight shots. She also added two ground balls and one caused turnover in the victory. Foust leads in the league in goals (36) and goals per game (3.27).

BIG EAST Defender of the Week
Ellie Henry, Marquette, Sr., D
Henry had a strong performance for Marquette on both sides of the field last week. The senior defender totaled eight draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers along with one goal in the Golden Eagles' win over the Hoyas. Henry currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in draw controls (64) and draw controls per game (5.82).Â

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Kate Kaptrosky, Butler, Fr., M
Kaptrosky scored two goals on two shots on goal as the Bulldogs defeated Xavier 19-12 to earn Butler's first BIG EAST victory in program history. The freshman midfielder also added two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.Â

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Grace Coon, Connecticut, Gr., A – totaled nine points off six goals and three assists in a 2-0 week for UConn as it got wins against Hofstra, 14-13 (OT), and Columbia, 16-8; Coon also had eight shots on goal and one ground ball last week
Ellie Curry, Denver, Sr., M – had her second hat trick this season along with one assist to earn four points in Denver's win over Villanova; Curry added four shots on goal, two ground balls and one caused turnover in the victory
Meg Bierley, Marquette, So., A – scored a career-high six goals on nine shots in Marquette's win against Georgetown; All six of her goals came in the first three quarters to help the Golden Eagles come back from a 6-1 deficit
