
Track & Field Concludes First Day of BIG EAST Championships

Voudrie places third in the hammer throw
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team concluded day one of the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships Presented by JEEP.
The Golden Eagles were treated to a warm and sunny day on Thursday at Jumbo Elliot Track.
Vinnie Voudrie earned the bronze medal in the hammer throw on the opening day of the conference championships. Voudrie made the podium with a season-best throw of 54.87 m/180-0 ft. Trey Baskin recorded a personal best of 48.43 m/158-10 ft. to finish ninth in the event.
Simon Werven sits in second place after the first five events of the decathlon with 3642 points. Werven was the top finisher in the long jump (6.66 m/21-10.25 ft.) and high jump (1.92 m/6-3.50 ft.). Freshman Gus Kasun follows in third place with 3624 points. Kasun recorded personal bests in the 100m (11.29), long jump (6.53 m/21-5.25 ft.), high jump (1.83 m/6-0 ft.) and 400m (48.92). Cole Donahe achieved PRs in the 100m (11.61), high jump (1.62 m/5-3.25 ft/.)Â shot put (10.29 m/33-9.25 ft.) and 400m (50.04). He is in seventh with 3026 points.
In the heptathlon, Katie Dingle is in fifth place with 2701 points after the first four events. Dingle threw a personal best of 10.31 m/33-10 ft. in the shot put.
Mia Ketelhohn scored a point for MU in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 43.61 m/143-1 ft.
Day two will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT with the resumption of the decathlon and heptathlon. Day two will be live streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. Live results for all events can be found here.
