Golden Eagles officially announce signings of Frannie Hottinger and Bridget Utberg
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University women's basketball team and head coach Megan Duffy announced the addition of two transfers Thursday morning.
Frannie Hottinger will join the Golden Eagles as a graduate transfer who spent the past four seasons at Lehigh. A 6-foot-1 guard/forward, Hottinger was named the 2022-23 Patriot League Player of the Year after leading the league in both scoring with 20.4 points per game, 19th in the NCAA. Her 630 points were a Lehigh single-season program record, and she was one of just two players to ever be named Patriot League Player of the Week seven times in a season. Hottinger also brought down 9.6 rebounds per game and had 15 double-doubles, tied for 15th nationally, while scoring in double-figures in 27 of 29 games.Â
"Frannie brings a wealth of experience to our program here at Marquette," Duffy said. "She will be able to play multiple positions for us and will use her versatility to score and rebound immediately. Her drive to be great in the classroom is as high as her drive to be great on the court. She'll be a great fit here at Marquette and will finish out her career strong."
In four years of collegiate basketball, the Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, native has totaled 1,096 points, 538 rebounds, 72 assists and 62 steals. She scored in double-figures in 27 of 29 games last season. Hottinger was also an All-Patriot League Second Team selection and was named to the league's all-tournament team as a sophomore in 2020-21.Â
Bridget Utberg comes to Marquette after a strong freshman campaign at Central Michigan which saw her earn MAC All-Freshman Team honors. In her first collegiate season, Utberg made 25 starts for the Chippewas and was the team's top facilitator with 65 assists on the year. She also ranked second on the squad in scoring (12.5), 3-pointers (57), 3-point percentage (.348) and steals (37). Her scoring load increased as the season progressed, averaging 16.4 points per game in the final eight games of the season.Â
"Bridget had a great first year in college basketball," Duffy said. "Her ability to break down defenses and stretch the floor from 3 will bring huge value to our program. Bridget's passion to improve and accept any challenge in front of her was evident in getting to know her more. We cannot wait to welcome her to Milwaukee."
A 5-foot-7 guard, Utberg prepped at Woodstock High School in Canton, Georgia. There, she was the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,329 career points. The four-year letterwinner averaged 20.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.5 steals per game in her prep career.Â
