SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Marquette University track & field athletes Mitchell Van Vooren and Dan Weizeorick concluded competition at the NCAA West Preliminaries hosted by Sacramento State.
Weizeorick kicked off the night for MU in the steeplechase. The Lisle, Illinois native finished 13th in his heat with a time of 9:01.32. Weizeorick took 38th out of 48 participants, he came into the event as the No. 41 seed.
"Dan ran a solid race and competed hard," said head coach Bert Rogers. "It wasn't the time he wanted, but he was still able to beat his ranking coming in."
Van Vooren smashed the 400m hurdles school record in Wednesday's first round with a time of 51.38.
In the quarterfinals, Van Vooren clocked another solid time of 51.75 to finish seventh in his heat. Van Vooren's time is the second-best of his career and faster than the previous school record. The MU senior placed 18th overall, after entering the meet ranked 47th.
"Mitch wanted to try and be under 51 seconds. It wasn't quite in the cards tonight, but he still ran very well," said Rogers. "Both of these guys had great seasons, and I'm proud of what they were able to accomplish."
