Marquette WLAX Announces 2023 End of Season Awards

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's lacrosse team has announced its team award winners for the 2023 season, a campaign in which the Golden Eagles reached historic heights including their first ever NCAA tournament appearance.Â
For the second-straight season, the Most Valuable Player honor was awarded to senior attacker Mary Schumar. Schumar was an All-BIG EAST and IWLCA West/Midwest All-Region First Team selection and earned All-American honorable mention accolades this season after shattering program records for points (89) and assists (69) in a season. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native finished the year as the nation's assist leader, while her 3.63 assists per game rank tied for seventh in NCAA history. Schumar also finished the year with 24 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.Â
Senior defender Ellie Henry is the recipient of the Gold Standard Award, an honor which is awarded to a player who gives their best effort day in and day out, and who stands out for living the Gold Standard in all that they do. Henry played a significant role on the defensive side of the field as well as in the draw circle. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native earned All-BIG EAST First Team and IWLCA West/Midwest All-Region Second Team honors after leading one of the nation's top draw teams in draw controls with 107, and also leading the squad with 22 caused turnovers. Henry also had 35 ground balls with just 15 turnovers, and recorded a pair of goals and assists. This is her second-straight year earning the Gold Standard Award.Â
Freshman attacker Tess Osburn earned the team's Most Improved Player award. The Castle Rock, Colorado, native played in every game and saw her role in the offense increase as the season progressed. She finished the year with 41 points on 34 goals and seven assists, while boasting an impressive .531 shot percentage. Osburn was twice named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, and recorded hat tricks on seven occasions. She also finished the year with 19 ground balls.Â
Senior defender Jasmine Marval was honored with the MU 'Rah Rah' Spirit Award for being a leader both on the field and on the sidelines and showing energy and enthusiasm in all that she does. The Glenview, Illinois, native appeared in six games this season, and brought positivity, spirit and love for Marquette and the team on a daily basis.
