Men's Golf earns BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award

The reigning men's golf champions compiled a GPA of 3.804 in 2022-23
NEW YORK - Marquette University has been recognized with the 2022-23 BIG EAST Conference Team Academic Excellence Award for men's golf after compiling the highest collective grade-point average among the league's programs at 3.804 for the academic year.
All nine Marquette men's golfers were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, which was announced on Tuesday, and the five athletes in MU's lineup last year (Nicolas Evangelio, Tyler Leach, Josh Robinson, Bhoom Sima-Aree, Max Lyons) earned Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar recognition.
Lyons, a All-BIG EAST First Team selection, recorded perfect 4.0 grade-point averages in each semester last year, while Evangelio joined Lyons with a 4.0 in the spring. Robinson and Aidan Lafferty each earned 4.0s in the fall alongside Lyons.
The Golden Eagles earned their fifth BIG EAST team title in 2023, while Sima-Aree earned medalist honors at the league's annual tournament. MU also earned the league's team academic excellence award in 2021-22.
A total of 22 teams were awarded 2022-23 Team Academic Excellence Awards, signifying the top GPA in each conference sport. The winners were chosen based on the 2022-23 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
Eleven schools had at least one team honored, with Butler leading the way with five, while DePaul had the second most with four teams recognized. Creighton rounded out the top three with a trio of programs honored.
