INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette University women's volleyball team has earned an at-large berth as a No. 5 seed in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship and will face Florida Gulf Coast University in the first round on Thursday, Dec. 5 in Salt Lake City, Utah at 5:30 p.m. Central time.Â
The Golden Eagles are headed for NCAA matches at the University of Utah's Jon M. Huntsman Center and will play the early match prior to the host fourth-seeded Utes against College of Charleston. Both matches will air live on ESPN+ and ticket information can be found here.
The Golden Eagles (23-8, 16-2 BIG EAST) finished second in the BIG EAST this season and are led by 11th-year head coach Ryan Theis and All-BIG EAST Conference selections Yadhira Anchante, Aubrey Hamilton and Hattie Bray.
This year marks MU's 13th NCAA appearance in the last 14 seasons, and the first trip outside the Midwest for NCAA First & Second Round matches. Marquette's lone absence in the NCAA bracket was in the spring of 2021 due to a reduced tournament field.
Marquette has made seven trips to the second round of the NCAA tournament and advanced to the regional semifinals in both 2018 and 2022 after hosting first and second round matches at the Al McGuire Center. In total, MU is 9-12 all-time in NCAA tournament play since making its debut appearance in 2011 at the University of Illinois.
Utah will face College of Charleston at 8:30 p.m. CT on Friday and the second round match in Salt Lake City is slated for Friday at 8 p.m. CT.
