Kolek Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

Senior guard claims accolade for second time this season
Marquette guard Tyler Kolek has earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for a second time this season. Connecticut guard Stephon Castle had been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for a third straight week.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Sr. – Kolek delivered an impressive performance in Marquette's 86-75 win over St. John's. He became only the third player in Division I in nearly 20 years to post at least 27 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds in a non-overtime game. Kolek scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half to rally the Golden Eagles from a nine-point deficit at halftime. He made 11-of-17 shots from the field. Â
John Konchar (IPFW) finished with 29 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds on Feb. 14, 2019 against Denver and East Tennessee State's Courtney Pigram chipped in 29 points, 18 assists and eight rebounds versus Mercer on Feb. 24, 2007.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Stephon Castle, UConn, G, Fr. – Castle takes Freshman honors for the seventh time in 2023-24 and the sixth time in the last seven weeks. He averaged 11.0 points, while shooting 58.8 percent from the field in a 2-0 week. Castle passes teammate Alex Karaban as UConn's all-time leader in Freshman of the Week honors. Karaban earned the honor six times last season.

DJ Davis, Butler, G, Sr. – Averaged 20.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Shot 57 percent from the field, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range, and 10-of-10 from the foul line. Had 20 points and career-high eight boards in win over Providence (75-72). Â

Cam Spencer, UConn, G, Gr. – Averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a 2-0 week. Shot 55.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range in wins over Butler (71-62) and at Georgetown (89-64).

Baylor Scheierman, Creighton, G, Sr. – Posted 21.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week. Had 27 points, 12 boards and played all 45 minutes in an OT loss at Providence (91-87).

Devin Carter, Providence, G, Jr. – Averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 week. Had 28 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals in OT win vs. Creighton (91-87).

Daniss Jenkins, St. John's, G, Gr. – Averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and produced a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio in a 1-1 week. Shot 53.3 percent from 3-point range. Had 22 points, six boards and six assists in a loss at Marquette (86-75).
