MARQUETTE (4-5, 0-0 BIG EAST)
- MU's veteran core has reached numerous statistical milestones early this season, including a new program ground ball record for defenseman Mason Woodward (248), career assist record for Jake Stegman (73), career goal mark for Bobby O'Grady (107) and the 100-point threshold for both O'Grady (123) and Stegman (116).
- Stegman leads the Golden Eagles with 25 points on nine goals and a team-best 16 assists. O'Grady has a team-high 19 scores in 2024 and three man-up goals.
- Goalie Caleb Creasor is a first-time starter this season as a graduate transfer and posted a career-best 18 saves in MU's March 16 loss to then-No. 8/9 Penn State in Springfield, Pennsylvania. The total is also the second-highest single-game mark in Marquette history.
- Creasor followed that up by allowing just three goals and making 11 saves in an 8-3 win at St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Creasor held the Bonnies off the scoreboard the entire first quarter and most of the second half, save for SBU's third and final tally with time expiring in regulation.
- The three goals conceded to SBU is the fourth-lowest single game total for an opponent in MU history. The program record of one was set in a 17-1 victory at Jacksonville in the 2017 season opener. MU has allowed just two goals twice, first at Richmond in 2016 and against Lindenwood in last year's season opener.
- O'Grady became the program's all-time scoring leader with four goals against then-No. 13/12 Michigan on Feb. 24 to surpass Ryan McNamara's record of 102 in the process. O'Grady now has 107 career goals just 38 games into his career (it took McNamara 64 games to reach 102) along with 123 points, just seven behind teammate Devon Cowan (130) for third all-time at MU.
- Cowan is two goals from becoming the third player in MU history to reach 100 in a career.
- Woodward is a member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List and a consensus preseason All-America selection, with recognition from USILA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine.
- Woodward was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the 10th time in his career on Monday after picking up four ground balls and causing four turnovers in MU's win at St. Bonaventure. He also provided an assist on O'Grady's late third quarter score.
- In total, the Golden Eagles returned 94 percent of their offensive production this season from the highest-scoring team (13.29 goals per game) in program history.
- The Red Storm have won three of its last five games, including a 9-7 victory at Le Moyne on March 23 in Syracuse, New York. SJU trailed 4-0 to start the game and faced a 5-2 deficit heading into the second quarter against the Dolphins. The Red Storm responded with seven-straight goals and closed out the game despite a pair of late goals from Le Moyne. Brian Kelly and Bobby Seel each had hat tricks for SJU, while goalie Kyle Mushon made 16 saves.
- SJU's other two wins came over Queens (Feb. 28) and Binghampton (March 9).
- The Red Storm is averaging just 8.8 goals per game and its defense has allowed 139 scores in 10 games this season.
- Kelly and Seel lead SJU with 19 goals this season and Kelly has added a dozen assists for 31 total points.
- Munson has faced nearly 300 shots this season and posts a .514 save percentage with 91 total saves and a 12.68 goals-against average.
- Head coach Justin Turri is in his second season as head coach in Queens and was a two-time USILA All-American and NCAA National Champion at Duke as a player. He served as an assistant coach at Michigan, Harvard, Army and Providence prior to taking the SJU job.
- Marquette leads the all-time series with St. John's, 10-1, and has won each of the last 10 meetings following a 15-10 loss in Queens during MU's first season of competition in 2013.
- The Golden Eagles claimed a 20-10 victory last season in Milwaukee and scored a program-record 23 goals in their last trip to Queens in 2022. Bobby O'Grady scored four goals and MU won 22-of-33 faceoffs in last year's win over the Red Storm.
- O'Grady posted a program-record eight goals in the 2022 victory as MU outshot SJU, 58-39. MU faceoff specialist Luke Williams won 21-of-27 draws and picked up 16 ground balls, bot the second-highest single game totals in MU history.
- MU is 5-1 all-time against SJU in New York and this season marks the first game at Belson Stadium between the two programs.
