Woodward is a three-time USILA All-American
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University men's lacrosse defenseman Mason Woodward was named an Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American, the publication announced on Friday afternoon.
Woodward is MU's all-time leader in ground balls with 248 and second to Marquette M Club Hall of Famer Liam Byrnes in caused turnovers with 78. He leads the Golden Eagles this season with 12 caused turnovers and is second to faceoff specialist Luke Williams with 36 ground balls.
IL's Media All-Americans are picked by a pool of voters who also vote in the weekly media polls. Points are assigned to first-team, second-team, third-team and honorable mention votes to form true teams of three attackmen, three midfielders, a face-off specialist, two shortstick d-middies, an LSM, three defensemen and a goalie. Players who received a significant amount of votes at their position but did not make one of the three teams were listed as Honorable Mention.
The Towson, Maryland is a member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List and was a consensus preseason All-America selection, with recognition from Inside Lacrosse, the USILA and USA Lacrosse Magazine.
Woodward was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the 10th time in his career on Monday after picking up four ground balls and causing four turnovers in MU's win at St. Bonaventure. He also provided an assist on O'Grady's late third quarter score.
The Golden Eagles begin BIG EAST play on Saturday morning against St. John's at Belson Stadium in Queens, New York.
