Fries is a Midfielder from Mission Hills, Kansas
Griffin Fries sits down with GoMarquette.com to reminisce on his time at MU. He is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic selection. The midfielder has played in 34 games and has scored 14 goals while dishing out 2 assists.
1. What is your most memorable experience with the team?
Fries: Traveling to Florida the last two seasons to play Michigan. The game this season didn't go how we would have hoped, but those memories of traveling there with the guys will last a life time.
2. What's the best advice you could offer future Marquette lacrosse players?
Fries: Soak up all the little things, meals with the guys, hanging out in the locker room, etc. It's easy to look past those moments when you're younger, but being a grad student this year has made me realize how memorable those moments are.
3. Most memorable game? Why?
Fries: Beating Michigan my senior year. They had beaten us every time we played them up until that game. It felt nice to finally get a win against them in my senior season.
4. What has motivated you?
Fries: Always doing it for my younger self who loved lacrosse so much. Realizing that it's just a game and to have fun with it. The guys in the locker room have always motivated me. Knowing that it's my responsibility to work as hard as I can for the rest of the guys in the locker room.
5. How do you think you've changed as a player or person over your career at Marquette?
Fries: I have become a much more present person. Learning to be present in every moment, no matter how big or small. That is something I have learned since coming here.
6. What is your favorite thing about the city of Milwaukee? Why?
Fries: The great food and the beach. When it's nice out nothing is better than going to the beach with the guys.
7. What have you learned that you will take with you as you move on from MU?
Fries: How to organize my time and to do things even when you don't feel like it. Playing lacrosse here has taught me how to show up every day even if you are not feeling it in the moment. I've also learned how to organize and schedule my days to use my time to my best ability.
8. Who is a teammate that has inspired you? Why?
Fries: All my fellow grad students. We came in as a bigger class and we are the ones who saw everything through and came back for each other and this team. We have been through a lot together and seeing how those guys have operated through it all is truly inspiring to me.
