LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Marquette University women's volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT with honor roll distinction for the 2023-24 academic year, the AVCA announced on Wednesday.Â
As one of the teams to earn mention on the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll, the Golden Eagles finished among the top 20% in all of NCAA Division I with a 3.69 grade-point average during the academic year. All 15 individuals still enrolled (not including December graduates) were named to Marquette's Athletics Director Honor Roll for the spring semester and recorded a 3.79 GPA, while Morgan Daugherty, Sarah Kushner, Samantha Naber and Natalie Ring each earned perfect 4.0 GPAs. All four also had 4.0s during the fall semester, in addition to Carsen Murray.
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the AVCA Team Academic Award than ever before," says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
The additional distinction of Team Academic Honor Roll celebrates programs in the top 20% of GPAs for their division.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. Marquette has earned the honor 10 times, including in each of the last six academic years.
