MU also had five individuals honored as Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars
NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced that the Marquette University men's golf team has earned the GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award with Presidents Special Recognition, while five student-athletes earned individual Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar recognition.
The Golden Eagles finished the academic year with a team grade-point average of 3.653, led by a perfect 4.0 GPA from graduate student Josh Robinson during the spring semester. The Presidents Special Recognition honor is given to squads finishing with a team GPA of 3.5 and above.
Marquette has earned the team academic honor every year since 2011-12, a current streak of 13 consecutive years. To be eligible for GCAA Outstanding Team Academic honors a college or university must submit GPAs for each player on their official squad list for the academic year.
The five mainstays in MU's lineup last fall, Max Lyons, Josh Robinson, Aidan Lafferty, Patrick Adler and Bhoom Sima-Aree were also recognized last week as 2023-24 GCAA Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars. It is the third time in as many years that MU has had five individuals recognized and MU has at least four student-athletes earn the honor in each of the last four years.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
531 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors. Georgia Southern, Mercer, Texas Tech, and Yale each had six recipients, tied with Missouri S&T (NCAA Division II), Trine (NCAA Division III), and Texas Wesleyan (NAIA) for the most recipients from one school across all six divisions in 2023-24. Twenty-five NCAA Division I schools had at least five recipients, including Marquette.
