The Marquette University men's basketball team hosted its annual Blue & Gold Scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center, with more than 1,300 fans claiming tickets for the event.
The Blue team claimed a 70-52 victory in the 30-minute game after trailing 32-30 at the intermission and the only scholarship player not to see action was junior guard Sean Jones, who missed Saturday with a shoulder injury, but is expected to return to practice next week.
The next opportunity to see the Golden Eagles in action will be at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 23 at an open practice at Fiserv Forum.
The afternoon also included the debut of the new R.G.V. clothing line and former players Steve Novak and Jerel McNeal participated in the day's festivities as well.
The co-branded collection will include university colors and logos along with R.G.V., the abbreviation for Coach Smart's core values: Relationships, Growth, and Victory. The philosophy has become a key component of the Marquette basketball program.
In addition to reinforcing the nexus between Coach Smart and Marquette and elevating the university brand, a portion of the proceeds generated through sales of the collection will go to support the Bo and Candy Ellis Student Success Fund, which provides emergency funds to Marquette students in need. The fund, which was endowed by Coach Smart and his wife in 2022, was named in honor of former Marquette basketball star Bo Ellis and his wife Candy.
