Johan Widal earns BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week

NEW YORK – Marquette University junior men's golfer Johan Widal is the BIG EAST Conference Male Golfer of the Week for the first time in his career, the league announced on Thursday afternoon.
The top-seeded Golden Eagles captured a team championship in BIG EAST Match Play on Monday and Tuesday at Bear Lake Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Widal was one of three MU golfers to win all three match-ups this week, along with sophomore Ryan Banas and freshman Vincent Cervantes.
The Golden Eagles defeated Villanova, 6-1, and Butler, 5-2, on Monday to advance to Tuesday's final against the No. 3 seed and event-host UConn, whom they also defeated 5-2.

Widal, playing in the No. 3 position, never reached the 17th hole in any of his match-ups.

Widal posted a 72.27 scoring average (+1.07) in 15 total rounds during the fall with six par-or-better rounds. He led MU at its final event of the fall in a tie for fifth place overall in the Dayton Flyer Invitational (Oct. 21-22) at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
The native of Halmstad, Sweden played two seasons at NCAA Division II Tiffin University (Ohio) before joining the Golden Eagles for the 2024-25 campaign. He joins MU senior Patrick Adler as winners of league player of the week honors this season.
