The junior captain is the eighth MU player to be recognized
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Marquette University junior defensive midfielder Peter Detwiler was recognized with a spot on the USILA Team of the Week for his effort in Saturday's win over St. John's, it was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Detwiler scored his first goal of the season in the 13-8 victory over the Red Storm at Valley Fields, and recorded new career bests in ground balls (five) and caused turnovers (three). He led a MU defense that allowed just one goal over the final 21 minutes of regulation to help MU secure a win in its BIG EAST Conference opener.
He is just the eighth Golden Eagle to earn the recognition and the first since teammate Nolan Rappis did so on Feb. 12 for a 10-point effort against Detroit Mercy. Current MU assistant coach Mason Woodward earned three such honors during his USILA All-America career, including for his play in his career debut in Feb. 2020.
Detwiler and the Golden Eagles (6-3) are on a four-game winning streak and are off to their best nine-game start to a season since 2017 when they made their second of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
MU hosts No. 14 Georgetown on Saturday, April 5 at noon Central time in a game broadcast live on FloCollege through the BIG EAST Digital Network. Tickets for Saturday's game, which is slated to take place in the stadium at Valley Fields, are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling the Marquette Ticket Office at (414) 288-4668.
