Golden Eagles secure 16 event titles on home turf.
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University track and field team produced multiple event titles, podium finishes and personal-best performances this past weekend at the Marquette Invitational, hosted at the Melvin "Bus" Shimek Track and Field Complex.
On the men's side, Frankie McGee claimed the 200 meters with a winning time of 22.40, while Bobby King followed closely in second at 22.62. Justin Juniel added a runner-up finish in the 100 meters, clocking 10.86.
Blake Frea won the 400m with a personal-best 46.93, and King claimed second in a personal-best 48.17. That momentum continued in the relays, where the Marquette "A" team of Drew Klopcic, Alika Lugo, King and Frea captured the men's 4x400 relay title in a season-best 3:21.90. Marquette also won the men's 4x100 relay in 42.30.
In the hurdles, Klopcic won the men's 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best 54.04. Charlie Dutmer finished second with a personal-best time of 56.49.
Middle-distance races saw personal-best performances from Patrick Clune, who finished second in the 800 meters in 1:54.47, and Will Allen, who placed third in 1:54.92. Nick Parrell added a runner-up finish in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:56.70.
Distance action closed strong with Edgar Valles winning the 5,000 meters in a personal-best 14:57.82. Logan Goodman followed in second with a personal-best mark of 15:04.60, while Dylan Riniker placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:25.18.
In the field events, Marquette collected several victories. Kyle Forsberg won the men's hammer throw with a mark of 48.59 meters, while Russell Czerwinski captured the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters. Freshman Tommy Majchrowicz won the javelin at 54.40 meters, and Henrik Rosario claimed the long jump with a leap of 6.73 meters. Louis Hebson finished second in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.85 meters, while Alex Matzke placed second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 14.91 meters. Matthew Ferrario recorded a personal-best 4.37 meters to finish third in the pole vault, and John Pitta (13.54 meters) and Czerwinski (13.40 meters) finished second and third in the triple jump.
On the women's side, Daylee Braden captured the 400 meters in 56.73. Marley Stoller followed in second with a season-best 56.81, and Kieran Petrie placed third at 58.45. Braden later anchored Marquette's 4x400 relay team of Paige Haglund, Olivia Campbell and Alexa Overstreet to victory in 4:11.79.
Sprint success opened with Sanai Baker placing second in the 100 meters in 12.29, while Haley Schaffer finished third at 12.32. Nonic Oelling added a third-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.82.
In the hurdles, Olivia Verden ran 15.47 to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles, while Natalie Lupa placed third with a personal-best time of 16.22. Verden then won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.99, and Lupa followed in second at 1:11.16.
In the 800 meters, Allie Opalka placed second with a time of 2:27.19.
Field events featured standout performances from Ally Broaddus, who placed third in the discus with a throw of 40.24 meters and won the hammer throw with a personal-best 51.10 meters. Megan White finished second in the hammer with a personal-best mark of 48.41 meters. Haley Schaffer captured the long jump title with a personal-best leap of 5.75 meters. In the javelin, Tessa Hollander won with a school-record throw of 43.74 meters, while Riley Ward placed second at 41.59 meters and Libby McCarthy finished third with a mark of 33.26 meters.
Marquette also earned a runner-up finish in the women's 4x100 relay, recording a season-best time of 47.99.
