Marquette Builds Momentum on Day Two of BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

Men sit in third, women seventh heading into Championship Saturday.
STORRS, Conn. — Marquette wrapped up day two of competition at the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Sherman Sports Complex on Friday with the men's team in third place with 43 points and the women's squad in seventh with 18 points, bolstered by strong finishes in the combined events and key scoring performances across the field and distance events.
"We continued to compete hard today, and I'm excited for those that qualified to the finals tomorrow, and for the remaining field events. It's looking to be a warm, sunny day, and have a number of spots where we can pick up points" Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Bert Rogers said.
The Golden Eagles saw a trio of scorers in the decathlon, led by senior Gus Kasun, who placed fourth overall with 6,466 points to score five team points. Junior Henrik Rosario followed in fifth with 6,200 points, adding four points, while senior Cole Donahe placed seventh with 5,510 points to contribute two points. Kasun opened the day with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.47 seconds, while Rosario added a personal-best 17.77 to take fifth. Rosario continued his strong performance with a fourth-place throw of 36.91 meters in the discus and matched his season-best in the pole vault at 4.10 meters.
Kasun added a mark of 35.56 meters in the discus and equaled his season-best clearance of 3.90 meters in the pole vault, while Donahe contributed a 45.13-meter throw in the javelin to place fifth in the event. The trio closed out the decathlon in the 1,500 meters with Kasun taking second in 4:44.62, Rosario placing third in 4:53.98 and Donahe finishing fourth in 4:56.55.
On the women's side, sophomore Libby McCarthy finished seventh in the heptathlon with a personal-best total of 4,418 points, which ranks No. 10 in Marquette history and scored two team points. McCarthy posted a mark of 4.83 meters in the long jump, threw 33.20 meters in the javelin and closed with a time of 2:29.37 in the 800 meters.
Marquette added significant field event scoring on the men's side, highlighted by Rosario's runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.81 meters to score eight points. Freshman Jude Anderson also contributed in the event with a sixth-place finish at 6.27 meters. In the high jump, sophomore Russell Czerwinski and senior John Pitta each tied for third at 1.96 meters to split 11 points, while Anderson added two points with a seventh-place finish and freshman Louis Hebson scored one point in eighth.
In the women's field events, Haley Schaffer placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.72 meters to score two points. Marquette also saw four scorers in the pole vault, led by Kaitlyn Huebner, who cleared 3.35 meters for a fifth-place finish and four points. Freshman Kassidy Papa placed seventh and scored two points, while junior Alexis Boyer took sixth for three points and senior Emma Kingsley added a ninth-place finish.
On the track, Marquette advanced several athletes to Saturday finals, including freshman Blake Frea, who won his heat in the 400 meters in 47.24 seconds to automatically qualify, and freshman Bobby King, who posted a personal-best 21.59 in the 200 meters to advance, also the No. 10 mark in MU history. Freshman Drew Klopcic also secured a spot in the 400-meter hurdles final after winning his heat in 53.63 seconds, while freshman Charlie Dutmer advanced to the 110-meter hurdles final with an eighth-place finish in 15.99 seconds.
In the distance events, freshman Dylan Riniker scored two points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a seventh-place, personal-best time of 9:10.77, while sophomore Edgar Valles also competed. Riniker's mark is a U.S. U-20 qualifying time. Junior Nick Parrell added a 14th-place finish in the 5,000 meters.
Marquette returns to action tomorrow morning for the third and final day of the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships, starting with field events at 10 a.m. CT.
