The Golden Eagles were consistently top 50 in the nation in field goal percentage defense (38.1 percent) and held opponents to under 45-percent shooting from the field in 28-of-32 games.
Marquette led the BIG EAST in rebounding all season at 37.5 rebounds per game and a +4.8 rebound margin. The Golden Eagles outrebounded their opponent in 20-of-32 games.
Marquette finished third in the BIG EAST in scoring offense (67.1 points per game) and scoring margin (+7.8). Sophomore forward Skylar Forbes earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors while senior guard Lee Volker was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Marquette University women’s basketball head coach Cara Consuegra announced Deont’a McChester as an assistant coach for the program on Thursday, April 26, 2024.
McChester came to Milwaukee after spending one season on Consuegra’s staff at Charlotte.
“I am thrilled to continue my coaching journey with Deont’a and welcome him to Marquette,” Consuegra said. “Deont’a is an elite recruiter and developer of people first. He takes great pride in mentoring student athletes and preparing them for life after basketball. His exceptional knowledge of the game and high energy will also have a positive impact on the program. I am confident in Deont’a’s abilities and believe he will help us win and move this program forward.”
McChester came to Charlotte after spending three seasons on staff at Georgia Southern, where he was promoted to associate head coach before the 2022-23 season.
“I am really honored that Cara has trusted me to join her at Marquette,” McChester said. “I am a true believer in Cara and her vision she has for Marquette women’s basketball. This is a great opportunity for us to represent the Marquette brand and compete for championships in the BIG EAST Conference.”
While at Georgia Southern, McChester was also tabbed with recruiting coordinator duties. The Eagles ranked among the national leaders in steals and forced turnovers per game with McChester on the sideline.
McChester was an assistant at Tennessee State from 2017-20. He has head coaching experience with Clafin University in South Carolina for four seasons and with the Flint City Monarchs of the WBCBL for three seasons.
McChester, from Flint, Michigan, earned a bachelor's degree from Keuka College in 2007 and a master's degree from Tennessee State in 2020.
