MILWAUKEE - Marquette head basketball coach Tom Crean announced today that junior center Greg Clausen will undergo surgery within the next two days to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee. He is expected to be out for four to six weeks.
Clausen, a 6-11, 270 two-year letterwinner, injured the knee in practice last Wednesday. The injury was originally diagnosed as a medial collateral sprain. An MRI that was performed on Tuesday revealed that in addition to the medial collateral sprain, the medial meniscus was torn.
?It is unfortunate that Greg suffered this injury, considering the progress that he made throughout the fall,? Crean stated. ?I know how badly he wants to be successful this season. I was pleased with his progress and I still see him being a very solid contributor to the team this year. We will work that much harder with him throughout his rehabilitation to get him ready for when he is able to return to practice.?
Clausen has appeared in 56 consecutive games over the last two seasons. That is the longest active streak on this year?s team. In 1998-99 he averaged 3.4 points and 3.5 rebounds and made 12 starts.
