Women's Cross Country Wins Again

ORONO, Maine - The Marquette women's cross country team continued its strong 1999 season this morning, securing the title of the University of Maine?s Murray Keatinge Invitational for its second meet championship of the season. The Golden Eagles concluded the eight-team women?s 5K with 34 points, edging Indiana (41 points) and Vermont (61), which finished second and third respectively.
Freshmen Susan Barth and Jessie Swan led the way for Marquette. Barth led all Golden Eagle finishers with a time of 18:04, good for second place in the individual race. It was the first time this season that Barth had led the Marquette finishers. Her classmate, Jessie Swan, took fourth place in 18:14, while junior Sarah McCullough earned fifth place in a time of 18:21. Four of the remaining five Golden Eagle finishers placed in the top 20.
Indiana freshman Amanda Bell captured the individual title with a time of 17:58.
