Last Time Out The Golden Eagles dropped a 66-57 decision at Minnesota on Nov. 23.
Early foul trouble hampered the Golden Eagles, putting the Golden Gophers in the bonus with 13 minutes left in the first half. Minnesota took advantage of the situation, converting 14 of 20 free throws, including 8-10 from Dusty Rychart, in the first half alone.
Despite trailing 34-24 at halftime, Marquette battled back to cut the lead to six points on three occasions. But the Golden Eagles couldn?t get closer than that. Marquette held Minnesota scoreless for 2:38 late in the second half and Cordell Henry scored six unanswered points to pull Marquette within eight (57-49). Minnesota went 5-7 from the free throw line in one minute to seal the win.
Minnesota shot 45.1% from the field and were 20-34 from the free throw line. The Gophers also forced 24 turnovers by the Golden Eagles. Minnesota went 0-5 from three-point range, the first time in 75 games that a Marquette opponent failed to hit a three-pointer.
Rychart had game highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Terrance Simmons chipped in 11 points. Joel Przybilla added 10 points and four assists.
John Cliff led Marquette with 16 points. Brian Wardle scored 12 and Jon Harris came off the bench to grab a team-best eight rebounds, including five offensive.
Injury Update Junior Greg Clausen underwent surgery on Friday, Oct. 29, to repair a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. He missed both exhibition games, but saw action in the first two games of the season.
Krunti Hester, the lone freshman on this year?s squad, did not appear in either exhibition contest or either of the first two regular-season contests. He is hampered by a right ankle injury.
Bart Miller sprained his left ankle in practice Thanksgiving night. He will not dress today.
Oh Yes They Call It A Streak Marquette has made at least one three-point field goal in 320 consecutive games. The last game without a trey was against Wake Forest on Feb. 2, 1989.
Bench Production Through the first two games of the season Marquette?s bench is averaging 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds. The reserves shoot 37.8% from the field and 46.7% from the free throw line. The bench has yet to produce a three-pointer.

The Arena served as Marquette?s home from 1950-51 to 1987-88. The Golden Eagles have played four games in their former home since then and are 4-0 in those contests.
Defending the Three-Pointer Minnesota was 0-5 from three-point territory on Nov. 23, the first time in 75 games a Marquette opponent failed to connect on the long-range shot.
