Men's Track & Field Makes Strong Debut in Chicago

CHICAGO - The Marquette University men's track and field squad opened the indoor season this morning at the University of Chicago?s Ted Haydon Holiday Classic. While there were no team scores at the meet, several Golden Eagles turned in impressive indoor debuts. Sophomore Brian Hardin placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.61, a personal record, and also ran the first leg of Marquette?s 1600-meter relay, which took first place with a time of 3:23.02. His time in the 400 meters also improved his hold on the sixth-best all-time performance in that event.
Senior Greg Uher earned a first-place finish in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 53-6.25, which improved his third-best all-time performance mark. Uher also staked a claim to the fifth-best all-time performance in the 35-lb. weight throw with a toss of 50-1.75.
Several freshmen placed among Marquette?s all-time top 10 in their respective events. In his collegiate debut, freshman Nic Wucherer placed second in the 55-meters in a time of 7.88, the seventh-best all-time Marquette performance. Wucherer?s classmate, Marek Krawzcyk, earned the 10th-best all-time performance in the 400 meters with his time of 49.98, which earned him third place at the meet. Freshman Nick Newton set a personal record and placed second in the long jump with a distance of 22-6.5, the ninth-best all-time Marquette performance.
