Marquette Volleyball Hosts DePaul

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team swings back into C-USA action on Saturday (Oct. 21) when it plays hosts to DePaul. Game time at MU Gymnasium is 7:00 p.m.
Heading into the tussle with the Blue Demons, the Golden Eagles stand 5-16 overall and 3-6 in league play. In its most recent outing, MU snapped a five-match losing skid when it defeated Illinois at Chicago on Tuesday (Oct. 17) in three games, 15-8, 15-10, 15-11. Pacing a balanced offensive attack that featured four players with double-figure kills was freshman Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) with 17 kills, her third-highest total of the season. Classmate Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) finished with 16 kills, along with a season-best 18 digs, while junior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) and sophomore Amy Levin (Palatine, Ill.) chalked up 12 and 10 kills, respectively. MU finished the match with a 29.0 attack percentage, the team's second-highest effort of the campaign.
Heading into the weekend, four Marquette players rank among the league's top 10 performers in several categories. Lopata is 10th in kills per game (3.79 kpg), senior Liz Egasti (St. Charles, Ill.) is eighth in assists (10.55 apg), freshman Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) is ninth in assists (10.23 apg) and fifth in service aces (0.40 apg) and Devine is 10th in blocks per game (0.96 bpg).
DePaul sports an overall record of 15-7 and is in third place in the American Division of C-USA with a league slate of 6-3. The Blue Demons will be looking to rebound after dropping a four-game decision to UW-Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Earlier this season (Sept. 19), Marquette opened C-USA play at DePaul where it suffered a three-game loss, 13-15, 5-15, 13-15.
EGASTI CLOSING IN ON C-USA RECORD -- Liz Egasti is 121 assists shy of becoming C-USA's all-time leader in assists. Heading into the DePaul affair, Egasti has 4,752 career assists and is second only to UAB's Abby Thatcher (1995-98) mark of 4,872.
