Milwaukee, WI -- Tim Buckley, an assistant coach on the 1999-2000 Marquette men's basketball team, has been named the head coach at Ball State University. Buckley replaces Ray McCallum who took over the head duties at the University of Houston.
Buckley, who joined first-year head coach Tom Crean's staff in April of 1999, helped the Golden Eagles to a 15-14 overall record, an 8-8 mark in Conference USA and a National Invitation Tournament appearance last season.
"There are mixed emotions at a time like this because you don't like to lose people off your staff," said Crean. "On the other hand, it does speak volumes for our program that somebody who did a great job at Marquette was wanted back there. I think that he will do an outstanding job at Ball State because he has the total package -- he is well versed in all aspects of the game, has a great work ethic and pays attention to detail."
Buckley is no stranger to the Ball State program having spent five seasons as an assistant coach there from 1994 through 1999. During that time, he helped Ball State to an overall record of 88-55 and a 55-35 Mid-American Conference mark. In addition he helped BSU to a NCAA appearance in 1995 and a NIT berth in 1998.
