Postseason Awards Handed Out To Wrestling Team

Milwaukee-The Marquette University wrestling team announced its postseason team awards at MU's annual All-Sports Banquet held on April 26. Senior Neil Posmer (Algonquin,Ill./Jacobs) was named the team's Most Valuable Player and won the award for most takedowns. Junior Peter Butville (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) was awarded the Most Falls Award. Sophomore Nathan Challis (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) won the Most Improved award and freshman Brian Cobb (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) was named the team's Outstanding Freshman Award. The Golden Eagles also finished 11th in the National Wrestling Collegiate Association's Top 25 Academic Team. Marquette had a team GPA of 3.0308.
Posmer, a 2000 NCAA Tournament qualifier, led Marquette in eight of 11 categories, including wins, 126 takedowns, and total match points. He had 126 takedowns. Posmer went 11-2 in Division I duals and 18-3 overall in duals. He finished second in the Golden Eagle Open and third in the Wheaton Invitational in the 157-pound weight class. Posmer finished his career fourth all-time in wins with 136.
Butville, a 2000 NCAA Tournament qualifier, led the Golden Eagles with 11 falls. He was the Golden Eagle Open and Wisconsin Open Champion in the 165-pound weight class. He finished with an overall 25-2 record.
Challis was the Golden Eagle Open Champion and finished second in the Wisconsin Open in the 133-pound weight class. He finished with an overall 15-11 record, a seven-win improvement from the 1998-99 season.
Cobb was the only freshman starter on the team. He took third at the Marquette Open II Tournament, fourth at Stevens Point Silver Division and sixth at the Wheaton Invitational.
