Marquette Athletic Teams Face Busy Weekend

Milwaukee -- Five Marquette University athletic teams will be in action over the Labor Day weekend as the 2000-01 season swings into full gear.
On Friday, the MU women's soccer team looks to go to 3-0 for the first time since 1996 when it hosts intra-city rival UW-Milwaukee at the Valley Fields starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles' volleyball team opens their campaign on Friday when they host the Marquette Challenge. MU's first match will be against McNeese State starting at 8:00 p.m., at the Marquette Gymnasium. On Saturday, the MU spikers tangle with Eastern Illinois (1:00 p.m.) and Northern Illinois (8:00 p.m.).
Head Coach Steve Adlard and his Marquette men's soccer team open play Friday when they face cross-town rival UW-Milwaukee at the Panthers' Engelmann Field starting at 4:30 p.m. On Monday (Sept. 4), MU makes its home debut with a contest against Evansville starting at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Fields.
MU's men's and women's cross country teams will be in action as well when they take part in the annual Intrasquad/Alumni Meet at Greenfield Park in West Allis. The women's three-mile competition begins at 10:00 a.m., while the men's four-mile event is set to start at 10:30 a.m.
