MILWAUKEE (AP) - Cordell Henry scored 22 points and Brian Wardle had 21 in leading Marquette to an 82-64 victory over DePaul in Conference USA action Thursday night.
The Golden Eagles (14-10, 9-4 C-USA) trailed only for a few seconds in the opening two minutes as they increased their lead in the American Division to one full game over Cincinnati. DePaul (12-13, 4-8) dropped a full game behind St. Louis in last place.
Oluoma Nnamaka added 14 points and Odarey Blankson 12 for Marquette, which shot 52 percent.
Andre Brown scored 19 points, Steve Hunter 13 and Bobby Simmons and Imari Sawyer 12 each for the Blue Demons, who shot a respectable 46 percent.
Marquette closed the first half with a 13-2 run for a 44-33 lead. The 44 points is the most Marquette has scored in the first half this season.
The lead was increased to 49-35 before Sawyer's 3-point play ignited a 10-2 run by DePaul to make it 51-45. But Marquette countered with seven straight points on layups by Blankson and Greg Clausen sandwiched around a 3-pointer by Henry.
DePaul didn't cut the deficit to less than 10 the rest of the way.
Marquette, which beat DePaul 69-49 last month in Chicago, had a 34-24 advantage in rebounds, with Blankson pulling down 11. Henry had 10 assists.
Prior to the game and at halftime, Marquette held ceremonies to honor the late Al McGuire, the school's coach from 1964-77. The court on which the Golden Eagles play at Bradley Center was officially named Al McGuire Court.
A new athletic complex soon to be built on the Marquette campus will also be named Al McGuire Center.
Among those attending the game were former DePaul coach Ray Meyer and Gov. Scott McCallum, who proclaimed it Al McGuire Day in Wisconsin.
