Milwaukee -- The Marquette University men's and women's track teams will host the school's lone home meet of the outdoor season this Friday (April 20) starting at 3:00 p.m., at Shimek Track at the Valley Fields.
In addition to the Golden Eagles, six other squads will be represented at this year's meet including Wisconsin (men), DePaul (men & women), UW-Milwaukee (men & women), UW-Whitewater (women), Northwestern (women) and Northern Illinois (women).
"We are definitely looking forward to having a weekend at home where our team can compete before friends and family," said Head Coach Dave Uhrich. "We usually don't have a lot of opportunities to compete at home. If the weather holds up, then there should be a number of good performances."
This past weekend, Marquette squads competed at three different venues -- at the SeaRay Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., the LSU Gold Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and at Wisconsin-Whitewater.
A number of solid performances highlighted MU's efforts at the LSU Invite. Junior Jeannette Batie (Lynwood, Ill.) took home third place out of 15 runners in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:02 while Jennifer Batie posted a fourth-place time in the 400 meters with season-best showing of 54.45 seconds. Junior Julie Sorrentino (Machesney Park, Ill.) claimed second place in the hammer throw with an effort of 158'07.00 while senior Annie Lewandowski (Waterford, Wis.) took home third place in the shot put with a season-best toss of 43'09.75. On the men's side, sophomore Marek Krawczyk (Muskego, Wis.) was a sixth-place finisher in the 400 meters with a time of 47.91 seconds, a personal best and the school's second-best all-time showing. Senior Ken Mueller (Racine, Wis.) was a strong performer in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:53.33, good for fifth position out of 29 contestants. Senior Greg Uher (Wilber, Neb.) topped all competitors in the discus with a mark of 176'06.00 and was second in the shot put with a season-best mark of 54'08.75.
At the SeaRay Relays, junior Bethany Harry (Forty Fort, Penn.) finished sixth in the Invitational 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 10:56.47. That time is good for a provisional qualification to the NCAA Track and Field Championship. Sophomore Susan Barth (Bluffton, Ind.) turned in an exceptional performance in the 5,000 meters finishing second out of 16 competitors with a personal-best time of 16:55.74. In the 10,000 meter open, junior Jackie Swan (West Allis, Wis.) finished in the No. 6 position with a season-best time of 38:03.26.
