Women's Track Finishes Fourth at C-USA Championships

TAMPA, Fla. - The Marquette women's track team posted team scoring efforts in nine of 12 finals held during the final day of the Conference USA Championships to earn a fourth place finish. After leading following day one and placing second after day two, Marquette was passed in the standings by Tulane, Houston and South Florida who won all but two of the day's events.
Jennifer Batie turned in the best single day performance for an individual Marquette athlete, scoring in three events. She combined with Megan Kossman in the 100 meter hurdles to earn five points. Kossman was sixth (14.09) and Batie was seventh (14.36) earning MU five points. Lauren Smith of Houston won the event with a time of 13.68.
She also earned points in the 400 meters finishing third (54.73). Tulane's Nadja Petersen won the event with a time of 53.54.
Batie turned her best performance of the day in the 400 meter hurdles. Her time of 1:00.83 was second only to Tulane's Petersen at 57.89. In all, Batie earned MU 16 points.
Perhaps the best result in any event the MU women had on the final day came in the 5,000 meter run with two point scoring finishes. Susan Barth finished second with a time of 16:50.41 while teammate Bethany Harry finished close behind at 16:51.20. South Florida's Jolene Williams won the race with a time of 16:48.57, but MU scored 14 points in the event.
Fla Tria Horne also had a big day for the Golden Eagles. She earned a pair of eighth place finishes, one in the 100 meter dash and one in the 200 meter dash.
Marquette also received point-scoring finishes from Brianna Dahm (sixth, 1,500 meters), Annie Lewandowski (third, shot put) and the 4x400 meter relay team (third).
