Milwaukee -- The start of the 2002-03 basketball season is months away, but the Marquette men's basketball is earning its fair share of preseason attention by being ranked among the nation's top teams by various websites.
CBS SportsLine.com and FoxSports.com both have tabbed the Golden Eagles as the No. 17 squad in the nation in its preseason rankings. Marquette is coming off a 26-7 record in 2001-02 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997. In addition, Frank Burlison of FoxSports.com has listed junior-to-be Dwyane Wade as one his Top 50 Wooden Award Candidates.
ESPN.com has Marquette slotted as the nation's No. 19 squad in the preseason tops among Conference teams. Louisville (#24), Cincinnati (#35), and Memphis (#48) were the other conference schools to be ranked among the nation's top 50 in that poll.
In the CNNsi.com Poll taken in late June, Marquette holds down the No. 25 spot, second among C-USA clubs (#12 Cincinnati).
