Marquette Volleyball Drops Five-Game Verdict To Wyoming

Milwaukee -- After emerging victorious in five games last evening against Cleveland State, the Marquette volleyball team wasn't as fortunate this afternoon as it dropped a five-game decision to Wyoming at the Chippewa Classic in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The Golden Eagles saw their record slip to 1-1 following a 30-26, 29-31, 35-33, 22-30, 11-15 setback to the Cowgirls who saw their record improve to 2-0.
After registering a career-best 25 attacks last night, sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) continued her outstanding play, leading Marquette with 23 attacks, a 37.8 hitting percentage (23-6--45) and 15 digs. Freshman Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) came through with a solid effort with 18 kills and seven digs while classmate Theresa Coughlin (Chicago, Ill.) recorded her second straight double-figure outing with 17 attacks.
For the match, Marquette posted a 24.0 hitting percentage (74-30--183) while Wyoming finished with a 33.9 percent effort (82-21--180). UW was led by junior Michele Rauter with 25 attacks and 20 digs while junior Leah Powers totaled 12 attacks en route to a match-best 70.6 hitting percentage (12-0--17).
Wyoming totaled 10 blocks compared to MU's 8 and enjoyed a 65-58 edge over the Golden Eagles in digs.
Marquette junior Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) doled out 62 assists in the match and now has 2,057 in her career, 32 away from moving into third place on the school's all-time list.
