Marquette Volleyball Tops Lehigh In Three Games

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team ran its record to 4-1 this afternoon with a three-game win over Lehigh in the Holiday Inn City Center Challenge at the MU Gym. The Golden Eagles topped the Mountain Hawks, 30-15, 30-15, 30-21. With the loss, Lehigh saw its record slip to 2-4.
Marquette enjoyed a balanced attack with four players posting double figures in kills. Leading Marquette in that department were a pair of freshman, Theresa Coughlin (Chicago, Ill.) and Jesse Klein (Lena, Ill.), both with 11 kills. Sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) and freshman Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) both contributed 10 attacks to the MU cause while Devine also picked up four total blocks.
For the match, Marquette recorded a 38.5 attack percentage (50-13--96) compared to Lehigh's .070 percent (20-14--86). MU's top hitter was Klein at 56.3 percent (11-2--16). For the match, the Golden Eagles registered a 14-0 advantage in service aces and a 39-24 margin in digs.
Marquette concludes the Holiday Inn City Center Challenge this evening (7:00 p.m.) with a match against Austin Peay.
