Women's Tennis Drops Match, 6-1, to Arizona

Milwaukee-The Marquette women's tennis team lost its second match of the season Friday night to the University of Arizona, 6-1, in Tuscon, Ariz. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season while Arizona improves to 2-0.
Marquette's sole win came from junior Veronica Garcia Briseno in the No. 4 singles match as she defeated Debbie Larocque in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Garcia Briseno now improves to a team-high record of 13 wins and five losses on the season.
Freshman Michelle Mojzis, playing in her first match of the indoor season, lost the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-3, to Emilie Scribot. No. 2 singles junior Eva Trujillo-Herrera was defeated by Dianne Hollands, 6-2, 6-0.
Junior Annabelle Espinosa drew both of her sets into extra games against Maja Mlakar, but fell short of winning with a 7-6, 7-5, score.
Arizona swept the doubles play as the No. 1 doubles team of Mojzis and senior Alexandra Stankovic lost 8-2 to Mlakar and Larocque. Junior Annabelle Espinosa and Garcia Briseno fell, 8-1, in the No. 2 doubles match to Hollands and Scribot. Finally, in the No. 3 doubles spot, Trujillo-Herrera and senior Anna Pavlovic were defeated, 8-1, by Zorica Zasova and Kelly Perry.
The Golden Eagles play again tomorrow in Tuscon, Ariz., when they face San Diego at noon MST.
