Men's Tennis Takes Care of DePaul

Milwaukee-Playing the last match of the regular season against DePaul tonight at Helfaer Tennis Center, the Marquette men's tennis came out with a 5-2 win. The Golden Eagles improve their record to 3-11 while the Blue Demons fall to 4-15.
Coach David Staniford says he is really pleased with his team's win.
"This is a good win for us because it's a conference match," he said. "We're peaking now which is great at the end of the season."
Marquette started out the night taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles match to win the doubles point. Troy Delmege and Ian Kawas defeated Andy Michael and Will Wang in the No. 2 doubles match, 9-8. The Delmege/Kawas duo finish the regular season with a 2-5 doubles record.
Eigintas Vedrickas and Creighton Macy defeated Murzow Mahic and Eric Huffman in the No. 3 doubles match, 8-3 to earn a 2-5 season doubles record.
"We're playing good doubles-we have been all year," Staniford said. "I've been pleased with that."
The No. 1 doubles pair of Raj Gill and Justin Holsen Holsen fell, 8-9, to Sam Davidson and Robert Kotroczo. Gill/Holsen own a 5-5 season doubles record.
Marquette took the No. 2 through the No. 5 singles match to give them the overall match win.
Delmege took on Kotroczo in the No. 2 singles match and came out with a 6-4, 6-1, victory. Delmege finishes the season with a 4-10 record.
In No. 3 singles, Vedrickas stole the match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, from Davidson to finish with a team high nine wins and 16 losses.
Holsen owned the No. 4 singles match against Wang, 7-6, 6-2. Holsen ends the regular season with a 4-9 record.
Macy cleaned up the No. 5 singles match verses Michael Fessler, 6-0, 6-1. Macy's record stands at 6-17.
Gill fell in a tough match to Andy Michael, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Gill finishes the season with a 3-6 record.
In the final match of the night with the entire Marquette team cheering him on, Kent Davies Davies couldn't hold on to the No. 6 singles match against Murzow Mahic. Davies lost, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, to end the regular season with a 2-8 record.
The Golden Eagles next match is on April 16 when it starts play at the Conference USA tournament, hosted by Marquette.
Staniford says he's expecting great things out of his team in the post-season.
"We've been playing really good teams this season so we're really ready for conference play," he said. "I'm really proud of how far they've come this season. We're a really young team and we have great spirit. Anything can happen."
