Newton Breaks School Record in Decathlon

Senior Nick Newton competed in the Decathlon at the prestigious Florida Relays this past Wednesday and Thursday in Gainsville, Fla.
Nick had an outstanding competition in only his 2nd decathlon ever and his first as a Marquette athlete. He finished in 5th place of 22 finishers and broke the school record by an incredible 671 points with a score of 6775, only 225 points off of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
With his 23' 4 3/4" effort in the long jump he moved to # 4 on Marquette's all time top ten list for that event. His marks and score for each event were:
First day
100 meters-11.11(836 points)
Long jump-23' 4 3/4"(845 points)
Shot put-40' 0 1/2"(619 points)
High jump-6' 4 3/4"(758 points)
400 meters-51.54(745 points)
Second day
110 hurdles-16.92(633 points)
Discus-124'(620 points)
Pole Vault-13' 1 1/2"(617 points)
Javelin-158' 4"(563 points)
1500 meters-5:03.69(539 points)
