Track Teams Finish Fifth at Cardinal Challenge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Marquette men's and women's track and field team competed at the Cardinal Challenge in Louisville, Ky. In a team scored event, both the men's and women's teams finished fifth of the six team field.
The MU women had their strongest showing in the 5,000-meter run. Four MU runners started the event and all four finished ahead of the rest of the field. Brianna Dahm won the event with a time of 16:50.84. Dahm ran away from the field, beating teammate Allison Sauer by nearly 40 seconds. Sauer bettered the third place time of Susanna Emond by 53 seconds. MU's Theresa Emond was less than a second behind her sister for fourth place.
Charles Mashozhera was the only Golden Eagle to claim a win on the men's side. He took first place in the triple jump, landing a distance of 48-feet, 7 1/2 inches. He won the event by eight and one-half inches over Southern Illinois' Dayton Johnson.
On the women's side, Audrey Schlitz had a strong showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She placed second to Eastern Kentucky's Wendee Embry with a time of 11:38.19. Crystal Larson also grabbed a second place finish in the Hammer Throw. She finished behind Cincinnati's Jo Young with a heave of 155 feet.
The MU men had three second place finishes. Brent Des Roches was nine seconds out of first in the 5,000-meter run. The MU 4x400 meter relay team was able to claim a second place mark with a time of 3:19.91, just off the winning time of Eastern Kentucky. Jonothan Rosploch placed second in the shot put with a toss of 49-feet, 9 1/4 inches.
Marquette will next compete on April 12 at the Lee Calhoun Classic in Macomb, Ill.
