COMO, Italy -- Hello again to my reading audience. Our games are over, and we split the last two games. In our game yesterday, we played the best team in Italy. This team had four national players on, and they did look like it. Sarah, our tallest player standing at 6-foot-5, was short compared to a few of their players! It was a rough game. The refs did not agree with Terri (again), but our team played tough. It was close all the way through, but unfortunately, the game did not fall our way in the end.
Though this was a tough loss for all of us, the dinner we had after it played out as if we just won the Olympics. Terri and Mem were trying to play tricks with toothpicks in their mouths, some players ordered calzones the size of an elephant's head, and a few locals gave us disapproving looks for trying to start spit ball fights. Needless to say, we had a good time despite the loss.
Today was a brand new day with a brand new team. In the afternoon we took a short bus trip to Milan. First we were able to take a tour of the third largest cathedral in the world and see downtown Milan from the roof. Next a number of us went to see the actual painting of DiVinci's "Last Supper." After this, we went to the game.
This was a rough game. We won, but it was one ugly win. At one point in the third quarter, we were down by 16 points But with a solid inspirational (and by inspirational, I mean the kind of talk a coach gives you that can change your entire persona in about one second) halftime talk, we were fired up to play better. And we did. We pulled away right at the end for the win!
After another filling Italian dinner, we are back in the hotel resting before our last day in Italy. It's sad that the trip is just about over, but so many memories have been made (and a lot of money spent), and most of us are looking forward to eating a hearty American McDonald's meal! I will write after our last day on the town, and we will be home soon!
