Mashozhera Wins C-USA Triple Jump Title

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? Marquette junior Charles Mashozhera won the Conference USA men's triple jump title, highlighting the Marquette track and field team's day at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Mashozhera's jump of 50-feet, six-inches led the field by five-and-one-half inches. Houston's Vincent Marshall came in second at 50-feet, one-half inch.
Mashozhera joined Brent Des Roches as Marquette individual champions. Des Roches won the 10,000 meters on the first day of the event. The pair led Marquette to an eighth place for the meet. Houston won the men's team competition.
On the women's side, the Golden Eagles placed seventh place in the team event. Cincinnati won the C-USA women's team title.
Freshman Michaela Courtney was the high point scorer for the Marquette women on the final day. Courtney finished second in the 1,500-meter run, placing five-tenths of a second behind DePaul's Leah Rygh. Heidi Lindeman and Nina Hoppenjan also scored points for Marquette in the event, finishing fifth and eight respectively.
Senior Susan Barth wrapped up her final Conference USA meet with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Jodi Jakubek and Susie Emond placed for Marquette, coming in sixth and eighth.
Marquette had two point scorers in the women's shot put. Emily Leklem placed fifth and Heather Thomason came in seventh, providing depth in the field event. Jamie Haro rounded out the scoring for the MU women, placing fifth in the 800-meters.
Jake Remitz completed the scoring on the men's side for the Golden Eagles. He placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run.
