MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette track and field program earned another academic honor today as both the men?s and women?s teams were named to the list of National Collegiate Division I Track and Field Coaches Association All-Academic Teams for 2004.
?Anytime you get any kind of award it is nice recognition for your program,? said head coach Dave Uhrich. ?I?m just as proud of this kind of award. Our athletes take their academics seriously and this is nice recognition for that achievement.?
In addition, senior Charles Mashozhera earned an individual academic award from the Coaches Association for his GPA of 3.558. The individual team is comprised of student-athletes who have a GPA higher than 3.25 and also record NCAA Provisional or Regional qualifying marks.
Mashozhera broke the school record in the Triple Jump at the 2004 NCAA Regional meet with a jump of 51-4.5.
The women?s team, had a team GPA of 3.30 and the men?s team recorded a team GPA of 3.02.
The awards are voted on by the Coaches Association in recognition of both performance on the field as well as in the classroom.
It?s the second award for the program in recent months. Last month, Conference USA honored the women?s track and field team for having the highest team GPA of any track and field team in the conference.
