9/2/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
?It?s great that we are represented in a substantial way on national television,? said Crean. ?I think it speaks volumes about our program and the University, and it gives Marquette fans across the country an opportunity to see us play.?
Crean?s squad opens Conference USA?s 10th season at Tulane on January 8th in New Orleans, and then travels to Memphis on January 13th. The game with Memphis will be played at the new FedexForum and broadcast by ESPN. The Golden Eagles will play five of their first seven conference games on the road.
?The first thing that stands out to me on our conference schedule is what it is going to be like in January,? said Crean. ?We are going to have to take a deep breath coming out of our non-conference season, be extremely focused, and be ready to go as we start with five of seven games on the road.?
MU will usher in the home portion of its C-USA play on January 15th against South Florida at 8:00 p.m. Marquette is 5-0 in conference home openers under Crean.
The Golden Eagles close out January with three of four games on the road, beginning with an ESPN2 telecast at DePaul on January 20. Marquette then hosts Charlotte on January 22, plays at Louisville on January 26 on ESPN, and ends the month at Saint Louis on January 29.
February features four home games beginning with UAB on February 2. Southern Miss visits the Bradley Center on February 5, followed by road games at TCU on February 9 and East Carolina on February 12.
Marquette returns home for consecutive nationally televised contests against Louisville on February 17 on ESPN and DePaul on February 20 on ABC. The month of February comes to a close with the Golden Eagles making a third consecutive television appearance when they travel to Cincinnati on February 24. The game, televised on ESPN2, will be Marquette?s seventh national television appearance during the 2004-05 regular-season.
Marquette?s finishes up its 2004-05 regular season schedule with home games against Houston (March 2) and Saint Louis (March 5).
?Overall I?m excited about the schedule, especially the home portion during which our fans will have a chance to see so many excellent programs,? said Crean. ?The most important thing for us is to continue filling the Bradley Center and make it one of the most difficult places to play in college basketball.?
The 2005 Kelly Tires Conference USA Men?s Basketball Tournament will begin Wednesday, March 9 and continues through Saturday, March 12, at the FedexForum in Memphis, Tennessee.
