Shaffer Sets School Record in the 600m

Jon Shaffer's performance in the 600m and Cassie Peller's first place finish in the 800m highlighted action for Marquette at the Minnesota Gold Country Classic Indoor Track and Field Meet on Saturday.

Saffer's time of 1:19.20 was good for second place in the meet, but first place in the Marquette record book as he topped Ryan Jacobson's time of 1:19.82 set in 2002.

Peller, a freshman, took first in the 800m with a time of 2:17.77.

Other highlights of the meet included Jonathon Rosploch's 4th place throw of 51-5 in the Shot Put and Andrea Engelmann's throw of 50-3/4 in the Weight Throw. Engelmann's mark was good for second place at the meet and 5th place on Marquette's all-time list.

Crystal Andalcio-O'Neil took second place in both the 60m (7.69) and the 200m (25.67).

Marquette will travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Irish Blue and Gold Open on Saturday, Jan. 29.
