Cross Country Teams Compete at Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational

The Marquette cross country teams competed at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, in Chicago, Ill.
On the women?s side, the No. 22 ranked Golden Eagles captured the team title in the Gold race, totaling 54 points. Sophomore Cassie Peller was the first Marquette finisher, crossing the line in fourth place overall. She clocked a time of 17:43 for the five-kilometer race. Southern Indiana?s Heather Cooksey took individual honors in a time of 17:09.
Finishing just four seconds behind Peller was Michaela Courtney, who placed fifth overall (17:47). Jodi Jakubek finished in 11th place (17:56), while Susie Emond was 19th (18:13) and Terri Emond 22nd (18:18) to round out the Marquette scorers. The top three runners were within 13 seconds of each other and the entire scoring five was separated by just 35 seconds.

For the men, the Golden Eagles finished 11th overall. Host Loyola (Ill.) won the team title with 81 points.
Kyle Saginus was the top Marquette finisher, crossing the line in 14th place. He clocked 25:04 for the five-mile course. David Henderson was 48th overall (25:45) and Jeremy Williams finished 86th (26:10). Kurt Kueter (146th, 27:09) and Drew Craig (151st, 27:12) rounded out the Golden Eagle scorers.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. The race, featuring many of the top 30 teams in the country, will held on the same course as November?s NCAA Championship.
