MILWAUKEE - The Marquette volleyball team (9-8, 3-3 BIG EAST) returns to the friendly confines of the Al McGuire Center when it hosts a pair of matches this week. UW-Green Bay will visit ?The Al? on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. for the nonconference contest, while Syracuse will make the stop on Saturday, Oct. 15 for a matinee match at 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles will honor their favorite faculty or staff member and introduce them in a prematch ceremony prior to the contest against Green Bay on Wednesday.
?We are elated to back at ?The Al? on our home turf this week,? said head coach Pati Rolf. ?Any time you get to play an instate team, the rivalry is great. Our plan is to continue to move forward this week and keep the momentum on our side going into the match against Syracuse on Saturday.?
The Phoenix (10-7, 3-2 Horizon League) of the Horizon League enter this week?s match riding a three-match win streak with wins against Youngstown State (3-0), Wright State (3-2) and Butler (3-0). Senior outside hitter Jackie Rosen leads Green Bay with 4.66 kills per game along with 2.80 digs per contest. Marquette and UW Green Bay are familiar foes as the two teams have met 31 times prior to Wednesday?s match with the Golden Eagles holding the all-time advantage 22-9.
The Orange (13-7, 4-2 BIG EAST) will play a doubleheader on Tuesday before traveling to Milwaukee to face the Golden Eagles for the first time since 1994. Syracuse saw its share of ups and downs last weekend as it was swept by Pittsburgh but defeated West Virginia, 3-0 to round out the weekend. Senior outside hitter Kelly Duan leads the Orange with 4.22 kills per game, while adding 2.25 digs per game. Fellow senior outside hitter Katie Allen has been the most accurate of the Orange hitting 37.5 percent for the season ranking her second in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage. The two teams have met just twice before this, with the all-time series being tied at one each.
The Golden Eagles recorded their fourth consecutive weekend split of the season last weekend defeating West Virginia, 3-1, on Saturday but falling to Pittsburgh, 3-0, on Sunday. Sophomore outside hitter Kim Todd had one of her best performances of the season in the two-match series last weekend recording back-to-back matches of double figured kills, while totaling just nine errors in seven games. The sophomore was a BIG EAST Honor Roll selection this week for her performance, which was highlighted by hitting a season high 40.9 percent against Pitt registering just three errors in her total 22 swings.
